Privacy Notice
ValorPathConnect Effective September 26, 2026
The short version
- There are no user accounts. You never create one, and you never log in.
- We set no cookies. None.
- There are no advertising networks and no tracking pixels on this site. No Google Analytics. No Meta Pixel. Nothing of that kind. We use one privacy-focused measurement tool, Fathom Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not build a profile of you or follow you to other websites.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. Ever.
- We do not store your IP address in our database.
- We do not receive any donor or payment information.
- If you type language suggesting a crisis, we do not save what you typed.
What we do keep is a record of what people search for, so we can tell which needs are going unmet and report honestly to the funders and partners who make this work possible.
Who we are
Valor Path Corporation, a Delaware nonprofit corporation and 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 99-1673548), mailing address 1040 N Market St, Washington, NC 27889.
What we collect
When you search: the search text you typed or the Quick Search category you selected, the number of results returned, your browser's user agent string, a randomly generated session identifier, and the time of the search.
When you submit feedback: the feedback text you write, and — only if you choose to provide them — your email address, the user type you select, the resource category, and whether the results were helpful. We also record the page address, your browser's user agent, and a short summary of the search that preceded it.
When you open the donation form: only the fact that the button was clicked, with the session identifier and user agent. Nothing about you or your donation.
Session storage in your browser: a random session identifier and your most recent search results, held in your browser's session storage so results survive a page refresh. This is not a cookie and is not sent automatically with requests. It is cleared when you close the tab.
Page visits, through Fathom Analytics: we use Fathom Analytics to count page views and see which pages people use. Fathom is a paid, privacy-focused service that exists as an alternative to advertising-funded analytics. It sets no cookies, does not store IP addresses, does not fingerprint your device, does not build a profile of you, and does not track you across other websites. It reports aggregate counts only — never a record of what any one person did. Fathom does not sell data and does not share it with advertisers.
What we do not collect
We do not collect or store your name (unless you type it into feedback yourself), your address, your date of birth, your Social Security number, your service record, your VA claim information, your medical or mental health information, passwords, or payment details. There is no account to create and nothing to log into.
We do not store IP addresses in our database. To enforce rate limits and keep the service available, our server holds IP addresses briefly in working memory; they are never written to the database and disappear when the limit window expires or the server restarts.
Crisis language gets special protection
ValorPathConnect watches for language suggesting thoughts of suicide or self-harm, so it can put the Veterans Crisis Line in front of you immediately. That detection runs in your browser, before anything is sent to us.
When it triggers:
- We do not save what you typed. Our records store only the marker "[Crisis language detected — query withheld]."
- The Quick Search category is not recorded.
- The search summary attached to any feedback you submit is left blank.
- Our server independently re-checks incoming records and applies the same protection, so a browser that failed to detect it does not defeat the safeguard.
- Our server logs are redacted too, so the words you typed are not written into our operational logs.
Being direct about one limit: to actually find help near you, your search text is transmitted to the service providers described below while the search runs. It is not stored there by us, and it does not enter our database. If you would rather not have crisis language leave your device at all, call or text the Veterans Crisis Line directly at 988 (press 1) or 838255.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to operate the service. Each receives only what it needs.
| Provider | What it receives | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | Your search text and, in a second step, the candidate organizations found for it | Interpreting what you are looking for and organizing results |
| SerpAPI | Search phrases built from your request, including the service need and location | Finding organizations on the public web |
| Replit / Neon | Whatever is stored in the application and its database | Hosting and database |
| Donorbox | Whatever you enter into the donation form | Processing donations, directly between your browser and Donorbox |
| Fathom Analytics | The page you are viewing and standard request information, used to produce aggregate counts and then discarded | Measuring how the site is used, without cookies or profiling |
None of these providers receives your email address or your feedback text. Fathom never receives your search text. Donorbox's handling of donation information is governed by its own privacy policy.
We do not display a cookie consent banner because this site does not set cookies for measurement. Fathom states that its processing does not trigger the consent requirement under the ePrivacy Directive, and that it is built to comply with GDPR, CCPA and CPRA, PECR, and COPPA.
How long we keep things
Feedback and search records are retained while they remain useful for operating the service, evaluating whether it is working, and reporting to funders and partners. We are establishing a routine schedule for deleting older records.
Working data — the search cache and rate-limit counters — is transient and is cleared automatically, at most within 24 hours and immediately on restart.
Your choices
- Search without leaving an email. The feedback email field is optional and always has been.
- Clear your browser's session storage, or simply close the tab, to remove locally held search data.
- Ask us to delete your feedback. Email team@valorpath.org describing the submission and we will locate and remove it. Because searches are recorded without any identifier tied to you, we generally cannot isolate an individual person's search history to delete.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information. Write to us at the address above and we will honor requests that apply.
Children
ValorPathConnect is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We will update this notice as the application changes, and will revise the effective date above.
